Join us to CREATE something new!

Alongside local artists, join us to create something new to capture how we feel about the towns that we call home.

We will be exploring different people's stories of migrating to Corby in the last 70 years. We want to bring together as many different experiences of moving to the town as possible - whether you were a child moving down from Scotland or whether you came from further afield. We are really keen to celebrate all the life and breadth of the towns’ different cultural heritages and communities.

And you are in charge! What we create is completely up to you. It could be a book, an exhibition, a radio play... you decide! Over 8 weekly sessions, you will not only get to know and explore each other’s histories but you will be able to create something new to capture and celebrate those experiences to share with the rest of the town.

We are excited to be starting to investigate Corby’s New Town story in 2020 – 70 years since it was designated as a New Town, and one of the first in the country to do so! Corby has such a wealth of Scottish heritage linked to the mass migration after the construction of the Steelworks in the 1930s. By 1961, 11 years after being designated a New Town, a third of Corby’s population had been born in Scotland.

We would love you to join the group with your family stories, generations of heritage and stories of creating a new home here in Corby.

The sessions will be led by Ryan Leder, a playwright and current Made In Corby Associate Artist. He is a session facilitator for The Core Playwrights Ensemble at The Core at Corby Cube. Most recently, Ryan created ‘The Next 10 Years’, an exhibition exploring the expectations of age amongst Corby residents for Made In Corby’s Time to Takeover.

Ryan's work includes: A SHORT STORY ABOUT TIME TRAVEL (commissioned by BBC Arts & Arts Council England, produced by Rural Media, Broadcast date: 2020), 60 MILES BY ROAD OR RAIL (Royal & Derngate, 2018 - returning 2020, co-written with Joshua Val Martin), NUMBERED DAYS (Theatre In Black, National Tour 2018, Winner of the Dame Janet Suzman Playwriting Prize), LOOP (Theatre In Black, National Tour 2019), STILL HERE (runner-up for Nottingham Playhouse’s Fifth Word Award for Most Promising Playwright, runner-up for Park Theatre’s Script Accelerator ‘18), BUS (Action Transport Theatre, 2015, co-written with Kevin Dyer). He is a New Associate at New Perspectives, Associate Artist at Made In Corby, and New Creative at BBC Arts.
