Grass Heads Activity

Step-by-step guide to making:

Grass Heads

Non-Messy

A great activity for anyone who prefers to stay clean and they can get involved in making their grass heads as much as they want. Once it's made they are great fun to watch, as the little grass hairs grow day by day. Chart your growth and then get grass-hair styling!

What You’ll Need:

  • Soil or compost

  • Grass Seeds

  • Watering can or spray bottle (or you can even use your finger tips)

  • Pot or container (try recycling a yoghurt pot or butter container)

  • Decorations (optional)

How to make your Grass Head:

Step 1

Decorate your pot (optional) - for you grass to become a grass head, your container needs to turn into a little creature. You can decorate your pot however you like by using felt tip pens, or paint or you can even stick on little eyes and mouth stickers. After you’ve finished decorating, leave to dry.

Step 2

Add in your soil - once your container is dry, fill it up with your soil. You want to fill it up about 3/4 full, just leave a little bit of space at the top.

Step 3

Sprinkle your seeds on top - get your grass seeds and sprinkle them on top of the soil. You don’t need to cover your seeds with any more soil, just leave them on top.

Step 4

Water - sprinkle a little bit of water on your seeds, either with a watering can or spray bottle or even just using your fingertips. They don’t need a lot of water so just a little bit is best. Then leave somewhere where they can get lots of sunlight.

Step 5

Explore - watch your grass hair grow! Over the next few weeks you’ll notice the grass start to grow. Check on your pots and monitor progress, you can even take photos every day to track it day-by-day. Once the grass has grown a good length you can put in little hair bobbles or even give the grass a little trim!
